I wanted to do an experiment where I tried to manipulate the material of a rail road spike as much as I could. So I first upset the point of the spike in anticipation of forging the actual spatula. Then, I isolated that made and aggressively drew out the rail road spike. I left the center a little thicker and tapered the handle towards both the spike head and the mass for the spatula. Next I used my cross pein to REALLY spread that material at the end out wide. Then I hammered it flat and hammered bevels into the edges. I gave it a decorative twist in the center of the handle and, lastly, blackened the whole thing with heat and beeswax.
