I forged the shield from some 16 guage sheet metal. I chiseled runes around the edges of the shield. I hammered out the hairpin and flared out the edges. Then, I bent it slightly so it could fit more hair between it and the shield. Finally, I blackened the whole piece with heat and beeswax.
